SUPREME DIVAS

Celebrating Fabulous Women of Song

August is the month to celebrate and highlight dynamic women and this will be done in spectacular fashion on The Mandela stage at Joburg Theatre with Supreme Divas.  The show will run from Thursday 11 August to Sunday 14 August for four performances only.

Supreme Divas will delight audiences old and young as they celebrate the powerhouse female singers that have become legends through their music over the past few decades.

Homage is paid to “old school” divas including Etta James, Barbra Streisand, Bette Midler, Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, Donna Summer and many others while younger audiences will relish the celebration of hits from “new school” divas including Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Christina Aguilera, Adele and others.

A fitting tribute will also be made to a few of South Africa’s own divas including Brenda Fassie, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Miriam Makeba and Claire Johnston.

Taking centre stage will be the insanely talented vocalists Tia Herman, Lelo Ramasimong, Tracey-Lee Oliver and Elizca Coetzer, with Born To Perform teenage sensation Marianthe Panas joining them as she makes her professional theatre debut.

Along with the dynamic 9-piece band led by Music Director Llewellyn George, audiences will thrill to instantly recognisable hits including R.E.S.P.E.C.T., Somewhere, If I could turn back time, I’m every woman, Hot Stuff, Stop in the Name of Love, Vulindlela, Valerie, Unqombothi, Do You Know where you’re going to, If I were a boy and many more.

Supreme Divas is the ultimate concert experience, honouring a selection of the many women who’ve made an indelible mark on the local and international music industry.

Joburg City Theatres will be producing the show.  “We want to portray South African talent at its best,” says Claire Pacariz, Executive Producer for Joburg City Theatres.  “And with Women’s Day on August 9th, we thought it would be an ideal time to honour legendary women in song.”

Performances for Supreme Divas run from Thursday to Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 3pm on The Mandela Stage at Joburg Theatre.

The production moves to the Artscape Opera House, Cape Town from Wednesday, 17 August to Sunday, 28 August 2016. Tickets are on sale now at Computicket. Hashtag: #SlavasSnowShow

Over the past 20 years, this unmistakably unique, yet constantly evolving comedy masterpiece has played to millions of people across the globe in more than 120 cities including New York, London, Sydney, Paris, Rome, Hong Kong, Moscow and Rio de Janeiro. Lauded as a theatre classic of the 20th century by The Times in London, the show’s creator, Slava Polunin is praised as the most illustrious clown in the world.

Critics the world-over rave! “Slava’s Snowshow is as theatrical as it is simple, as involving as it is inspiring.” says Variety while London’s Financial Times describes the show; “spreads a blanket of benevolent charm over the audience, holding them spellbound…” but perhaps the London Daily Telegraph best sums up the experience: “Slava’s Snowshow touches the heart as well as the funny bone. Full of laughter and joy it is a thing of rare theatrical beauty not to be missed”.

Slava’s Snowshow transports you into dream-like places – a bed becomes a boat in a storm-tossed sea; a woman is wrapped in cellophane and becomes flowers in a vase; a child walks in amazement inside a bubble; Slava boards a train and then becomes the train, his chimney-pot hat billowing smoke and a web of unspun cotton envelopes the audiences.  The stunning not-to-be missed finale sees a letter turn into snowflakes, and the flakes turn into a snowstorm that whirls around the auditorium leaving the audience ankle-deep in snow.

A wordless show that leaves you speechless – laughter through tears – the most heart warming show on earth – rare theatrical beauty – blissful – theatrical brilliance – an unforgettable miracle – a pure form of human kindness.  After the show ends, nobody wants to leave the theatre – the joy is remembered forever – each person sees his or her own story in the show, your own world comes to life.

“Slava’s Snowshow is a unique piece of theatre that is difficult to pigeon hole in one genre.  It is comedic, tragic, dramatic and will take the audience out of their day-to-day world and transport them to a beautiful, dazzling, enchanting place that will bring out your inner child.  It is an unmissable theatrical feast and Showtime are proud to be bringing the show to South African audiences.” says Showtime’s Tony Feldman.

This highly acclaimed international visual clown masterpiece for families, lovers and joy seekers is easily understood by all round the world. Patrizio Buanne in South Africa

The internationally acclaimed singer, Patrizio Buanne, arrived in South Africa this morning.  This is the tenth time that he visits our country.  Boasting multiple platinum record sales, he is known for his unique voice and energetic performances. It comes as no surprise that this one of a kind singer has an enormous fan base worldwide and is known as South Africa’s favourite Naples pop crooner.

The acclaimed heart throb, known as the Italian Tom Jones, will be in South Africa for three weeks to promote his latest CD, Viva La Dolce Vita and to perform at Classics is Groot on 30 July in Pretoria.  This show is produced by Coleske Artists, the guys behind the successful Afrikaans is Groot shows, and will focus on classic hits but with a modern twist.   Patrizio will perform along other favourites like Jannie Moolman and Corlea Botha.  Tickets for this show can be purchased via www.ticketpros.co.za

The album is a celebration of the ten years since he released his first international album, The Italian.

Viva La Dolce Vita is his forth international album, and like all the others, has already reached platinum status abroad.  This is remarkable, seeing that music sales are very low worldwide. Well known Italian and English favourites like ‘Surrender’, ‘Al Di La’, Il Mondo, Mambo Italiano, Un Angelo and some new songs can be heard on the CD.

The album releases in South Africa as a double CD. Hits with local singers like Liefling’ with Steve Hofmeyr,‘Always on my mind’ with Juanita du Plessis and ‘Ek mis jou elke dag ‘n bietjie meer’ with Corlea Botha can be heard on this special CD.

According to him Viva La Dolce Vita is the perfect name for this album because it personifies his outlook on life. “La dolce vita means ‘to live the sweet life’. And that is my life. Not that my life is perfect, there is a lot of sorrow around us, worldwide. But I prefer to have a positive outlook on life, and that is what it is all about.”

“Romance is about following your heart without thinking about it too much. What’s in your heart needs to come out of your mouth, and that’s what I want to sing about.” – Patrizio Buanne
