Add colour to the winter holidays with a kaleidoscope of activity


The winter school holidays are upon Gauteng and despite July’s often chilly weather, bordem is not an option. Carnival City has a super charged line up of activities to keep kids entertained – even in winter. Geared-for-kids theatre shows, lazer tag, go karting, magic bowling, arcade games and an outdoor playground are just some of the activities available to the young of heart at the colourful complex. There is also a meet and greet with the Emirates Lions Rugby team, a Ski Rink, movies at Ster Kinekor and the family-friendly Spur and Panarotti’s, which share an expansive indoor playground, to add to the list of things to do at Carnival City.

“Regardless of the weather, you will find fun at Carnival City these winter holidays. In addition to the funfilled staples which are always available, we have added some extras such as theatre shows and the free Ski Rink amongst others, to spice things up for our young guests,” says Michelle Smith, the Marketing Manager at Carnival City.

Liewe Heksie Theatre Show – 1 July

South Africa’s beloved Liewe Heksie is back by popular demand at the Mardi Gras Theatre on 1 July 2017Director Frans Swart adapted the two new Liewe Heksie stories; Liewe Heksie en Botterblom and Liewe Heksie en die Tuindwergie for the stage. As always, there is a talented cast of performers who play out the stories. Tickets cost R25 for children under 12 and R50 for adults.  The show takes place at 11:00.

Emirates Lions Rugby Signing Session – 8 July

Emirates Lions Rugby fans can meet members of the team at the Madri Gras Theatre at Carnival City between 14h00 and 16h00 on 8 July 2017. Fans of all ages are welcome to attend the meet and greet with the players. Bring along Emirates Lions merchandise for signing and take photos with the players. Adding to the fun, there will be cheerleaders, the Emirates Lions Mascot Mufasa and activities for children.

Sonja en Tjokker – 22 July

Sonja and Tjokker are heading to the Mardi Gras Theatre to entertain children, and the young at heart, with their fun filled bilingual (Afrikaans and English) musical theatre production on 22 July 2017.  Their fun performances are loaded with old favorite nursery rhymes as well as new, original content and aims not only at entertaining, but also educating little ones. Tickets cost R25 for children and R50 for adults.  The show takes place at 11h00.

The Lazer Zone

The Lazer Zone is a thrilling adventure for youngsters over the age of 8 years). Weaving their way through a three layered darkened maze, players must “hunt” their opponents and avoid being targeted. The game is made all the more exciting withlight from UV lights and UV wall paint shining through the hazy interior created by smoke machines. The Lazer Zone is open from 10h00 to midnight during school holidays.

Movies at Ster Kinekor

For those seeking more laidback entertainment, there is Carnival City Ster-Kinekor. The cinema complex boasts six plush cinemas, including two 3D cinemas, featuring state-of-the-art sound and visual equipment to ensure a crisp and clear experience. Carnival City Ster-Kinekor screens all the latest movies daily.

The Magic Company Arcade – always available

The Magic Company is a popular entertainment hub for families with children of all ages. It provides a safe and stimulating environment for children to play and have fun while visiting the complex. The arcade boasts a wide selection of gaming machines and activities in a brightly-lit and colourful environment that is sure to hit the spot with kids. A popular attraction at the Magic Company is the 3d simulator rides, which give youngsters the chance to take a heart-stopping roller coaster ride indoors.  The Magic Company is open from 10h00 daily during the holidays. 

Magic Ten Pin Bowling

The ten pin bolwing arena is where everyone can enjoy hours of fun pitting their bowling skills against friends and family.

Pocket Park

Children can enjoy some racy fun on the simulated Grand Prix circuit, while younger children have a super selection of rides to experience in the theme park. Other outdoor activities include a new play area with modern climbing frames and carnival stalls where youngsters can take a stab at winning prizes.

During the holidays, there will be a mobile synthetic skating rink in the Pocket Park where youngsters can test their skating skills free of charge.
