BluBird Entertainment : The Metcourt Hotel at Emperors Palace Review

Located in the heart of Emperors Palace, The Metcourt Hotel is one of three hotels on the property. Conveniently so, Emperors Palace is right next to the airport, it’s in the perfect location for tourists who have just arrived in our beautiful country or for those who are almost leaving, as well as perfect for our own local people. The energy, the décor and the entertainment that illuminates from Emperors Palace is powerfully unapologetic. And so it should be. When going there, it’s like you are in a different place, not like you are still in Johannesburg.

I was incredibly fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to do a review on the newly renovated Metcourt Hotel. I like to go into a review wanting to be honest and open for my readers, I am not swayed by sponsorship or anything like that. Saying that, I had very little to complain about or be negative about during this review. We were treated well and the venue was stunning.

Check in: It took us about 3 minutes to check into our room. The ladies and the gents who work at the reception desk welcomed us with smiles on their faces. They had a warm embrace that is not often found anymore. She told us where our room was, offered more assistance if we needed it and let us know about the facilities and extras that we could use if we wished, including the business center and the gym. The business center was a very clever and well thought out idea, if you needed to get onto a computer and use the internet and print things out, you were able to use their facilities to do so. I think this is a great idea for those who may need to check in and print their boarding passes or for someone who needed to print out a document urgently. The Gym is also well spaced out and the equipment was clean.

The Room: The room we were in was a family room. All I can say is WOW. This room was beautiful and the room itself was like a piece of art. Besides the three pieces of art that hung graciously on the wall, the room’s accessories added that extra bit or artistic vision and finished the decor off so well. There was a king size bed and two, three quarter beds pushed together, so essentially two king sized bed for family use. A large HD TV with over 20 channels to choose from, as well as music channels and local flight details. A desk that could be used for work or as a small dining room table with four chairs. A single couch with a light above it for reading purposes. A bathroom that was unlike one I’ve seen before; there was a bath tub on the left and a shower head right above on the right hand side. In the same area, so one could have a bath and their partner or child could have a shower at the same in the same space if you so wished, or you could do it separately. Even the bedding was so well thought out, the attention to detail in this room was unbelievable. I was so surprised at how much detail was in this room, even the paint on the walls matched the décor in the room. Even the hall ways didn’t skip a beat with regards to the attention to detail. Their carpets had a pillar printed into it, it was beautiful.

Dinner: We were booked into Rosetta's Bistro for dinner at 18:00. We arrived and there was a bit of a que. Not really knowing what to expect, I thought that they have been at capacity. We were a bit early though. Then I realised that it was full buffet inside the actual restaurant. I had been there for a drink before on the outside facing the casino but never inside the restaurant and never for dinner. Once we were let inside it was not full because they only opened for service at 18:00 which is then why we qued up, I later realised. The venue filled up quickly so that gave me a positive feeling that the food was good. When we arrived at our table the hostess asked if we had ever been there before and did we know how it worked? We replied with no. She explained that everything is a self-service buffet and there was a soda fountain which was included. Not only was there a soda fountain, but a wine fountain as well, filled with 3 different types of wine. This was a huge plus. There was a great variety of cold drinks that you could choose from, namely Coke, Cream soda, Fanta, Sprite and diet Coke. When it came time to eat, there were so many different types of options. There were starters that had salad options, breads and sushi. That was placed in the middle island. The built in stalls then had different ‘main’ options. The first stall was a “Mediterranean” section, the middle was a “Meat and rotisserie” section and the last was a “Pan Asian “section with two comfort meal sections in-between. My favorite of the night was from the Pan Asian Section. There was a variety of different veggies and noodles that you could chooses from. You then took it to the chef in that section and he asked if you wanted chicken or beef, and once you chose he cooked it up in a wok. It was absolutely breath taking. It was not like a normal stir fry. It was so good, absolutely memorable, and something I would go back to that restaurant for. The dessert table was FULL of an array of desserts that would melt in your mouth. From jelly, to ice cream, to brownies, to tarts and so so much more that were never ending. The service was fantastic, the food was amazing and the drinks were never ending.

Breakfast: We had breakfast at the hotel restaurant, F.L.A.G. We were helped really quickly because we got there at a nice hour where it hadn’t filled up too quickly. The food was nice and hot which is what I normally dread about a buffet breakfast but it was nice and warm. The service behind the food stalls were very good. The variety of the breakfast was good, there was bacon, eggs, omelettes, potatoes, fish, tomatoes, tons of different breads, mushrooms, yogurt, cereals, sweets breakfast bites and so so much more that I haven’t mentioned.

Check out: The check-out probably took quicker than anything, I don’t even think it took a minute. Why I mention this is because good service is hard to come by now days, and the service behind the reception desk was brilliant and I really want to commend them on it.

Overall thoughts:

I loved staying over at the hotel. It was a beautiful room, a beautiful venue and I had a fantastic time. I would absolutely recommend this hotel as it is affordable and caters to all types of people and families. You can chose a room that suited to your price bracket and your needs. There is tons of entertainment at Emperors itself so if you wanted to go and do something you could. There is the Barnyard which have shows often, there is the main theater that was showing an Afrikaans pantomime, there was the Center Court that had “Blacks Only” comedy show, which was all on the same night when we were there. In terms of shows alone there is always something on. So chances are when someone books into the hotel, they will have a choice of entertainment. Then there are many restaurant and food options that you can chose from when you are hungry. There is a cinema and arcade for the kiddes. Then of course, they have the casino for those older than 18 years old. There is just so much happening that you are not going to get bored at all.
