Avi G drops the ultimate soundtrack for summer with his catchy new single Feel It featuring Nigerian artist, Lpee.

Listen to ‘Avi G feat Lpee – Feel It’ here: http://smarturl.it/ma7llt

Creating music since 2007, Joburg-based Avi G is no newcomer to the music scene. Describing his sound as Pop/Hip Hop, Avi G (real name Avarshan Govender) has worked hard on building his career. Honest, his previous single released with his brother Priv Roc, has been his most successful release to date and achieved success across South African campus radio as well as San Diego college radio. The music video for Honest was filmed by Kyle White and received play on MTV locally (watch the music video here).

‘Feel It’ is his latest single release and was been a timeous work in progress. Even though the single took longer than expected to write and record, the time spent to perfect it was worthwhile and the addition of Lpee a perfect finishing touch.

How did Avi G discover Lpee? “It was crazy how we met... I was searching for someone with his sound but didn't even know where to start. I tried Google, different sites but it was so hard to find what I was looking for and have them be in the same area so we could get into studio together to be able explain what I wanted him to do on the track... One day I was scrolling on Instagram and saw one of my friends was in studio with Lpee and they posted a video of them jamming to a track they just did. When I heard Lpee's part I instantly knew that’s what I was looking for and he must have been in my area because he was recording with my friend. So, I reached out to him over Instagram, we met in studio and the rest is history!”

Avi G explains the message behind Feel It, saying “The song is about feeling the vibe with someone you don't necessarily know that well but feel a connection with knowing it’s something special and can't be ignored.” Feel It was written and produced by Avi G and recorded, mixed and mastered at The Yard Studios.

Summer and holiday vibes are around the corner and there’s no better soundtrack to the fun than ‘Feel It’!

SA rockers Leven drop their brand new single Here’s To You through Gallo Record Company today. Listen to the track here.

The anthemic hit Here’s To You celebrates the five years of experience Leven has crafted as a band to sharpen their sound and deliver their strongest single to date.

Front man, Stan Kruger explains the new writing approach, saying "For this song we decided to write with a message in mind and not always just to please the masses. I wrote this song for my mom who has always been my rock and as a single parent sometimes went to bed hungry just so that my sister and I were fed. We want this single to resonate with people and the parents and caregivers they cherish in their lives"

Formed in 2012 and based in Emalahleni, the band took their name Leven from the Dutch word which means 'to live'. The word came about after the band’s drummer heard it in a documentary and the name stuck from there. That one word perfectly summed the central message their music carried.

Leven released their debut album Fighting Hearts’ as an experimental release, allowing the band to discover and define their sound while developing as a new act. The debut produced singles Fighting Hearts’ and ‘Take It Back’ which achieved some success for the band.

“Listening to their debut album ‘Fighting Hearts’ gives you a bit of insight of what Stan Kruger, lead singer of the band can do with his voice. It is only when you see this band perform live, that you suddenly realise how much talent is hidden in the City of Coal. After the show Ross Learmonth, lead singer of Prime Circle said he became emotional when he heard the band perform.” - Zita Goldswain, Witbank News
(Prime Circle support slot review for Leven in Feb 2014 - https://witbanknews.co.za/7586/leven-rocks-barnyard/)

Early 2014 Leven was introduced to The Hit Lab studio and recorded single ‘Starry Night’ with producers Dale Schnettler (Prime Circle - Drummer) and Howie Combrink (two-time SAMA-nominee in 2015). The single was released in mid-2014 and achieved great success for the group.

Three years later and Leven have taken the time and space to perform more, write more and finally record again.

Why the long wait? "After the first few singles we decided to take stock of where we are personally and after parting ways with a previous company, we decided to work on our sound and what exactly we want to be as a band and 'Here's to you' was the baby we were scared to kick out of the nest. The break was worth it, we have a very clear mind about the future," explains Kruger.

Here's To You was produced by Leven and long-time musical friend, Howie Combrink at his studio The Hit LabRecording took place at The Hit Lab and Stained Oak Studios, with mixing done by SAMA Winner, Gerhard Grobler and mastered by Rogan Kelsey.

As a young man Mark’s specialty was sleight-of-hand magic, but he later expanded his act, with Jinger Leigh, The Conjuress to include tigers, panthers and sensational, split-second marvels. They even presented the largest stage illusion of all time, vanishing an American Airlines jumbo jet at the Reno Hilton. Working together as Kalin & Jinger, the duo has developed a reputation for their mix of innovative illusions and their distinctive, modern style. They were awarded Magicians of the Year from The Academy of Magical Arts (The Magic Castle), the highest honor in magic, recognizing their unique achievements and charismatic performances A modern sorceress in a very ancient art, Jinger Leigh’s unique blend of elegance and theatricality has redefined the role of the magician.

As a performance artist and modern interpreter of the art of illusion, Darcy Oakes, The Grand Illusionist transports audiences with his charm, his sleight of hand and logic-defying illusions. He has taken the rich heritage of the magic culture and put a fresh, young and modern twist on the profession. In 2014 Darcy made an appearance before 200 million viewers on ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent. He impressed both the judges and the audience, catapulting this star much higher than even he had believed possible. In 2016, he made a guest appearance on America’s Got Talent proving once again that the impossible is possible.

Collectively these performers have been seen by millions of people around the world and this production showcases their incredible talents together on stage for the very first time. Audiences will witness stunning acts of grand illusion, levitation, mindreading, and disappearance. #Itsanillusion

Ramkiki Launches it's New Pool Deck

Ramkiki Estate has renovated it's grounds, and guess what? There is a stunning pool deck, with the most beautiful blue pool, a bar and relaxing chairs to soak up the sun.

Ramkiki has always offered the most beautiful grounds for Weddings, events and parties, but now, they have added to their magnificence.

As you walk in, you welcomes by the rounded bar area, where you can enjoy cocktails of your choice. further on is the deck met by the pool. There is a beautiful water feature connected to the pool that adds elegance and a touch of class to the outside venue as a whole. There are tables and chairs, so that you can enjoy your meal with a view, and there are deck chairs so that you can enjoy your time soaking up the sun, whilst watching others swim.

At the launch we were met by the owner, Joe Theron, the manager of the pool deck area and the events coordinator. they were welcoming and excited about the new venue area. They couldn't wait for the news to get out there that it was open for business and ready for patrons to enjoy. What's truly lovely is that you could use the pool if you are a guest, you go and eat a meal or have a full function there. There is enough space to have a function, which I love, because it is hard to find a pool area/deck to have a good party or function. They cater to all your needs, they have a full restaurant, venues and accommodation. Be sure to make a stop there as soon as you can so that you can take in their beauty.

CITY OF CAPE TOWN

Last night I conducted a successful test switch-on of the festive lights on Adderley Street as we prepare to usher in the holiday season.
I was joined by top Cape Town talents, DJ Ready D, Heavenly Quartez, and members of The Rockets (who are celebrating their 50th anniversary).

These artists form part of an exciting line-up of entertainers set to wow Capetonians next month at the Cape’s biggest, free open-air event.
Each year thousands of Capetonians and visitors enjoy the celebration. This event is indeed a key example of how we are building an inclusive city as we come together to enjoy safe fun and the best in local entertainment.

The performers set to take the stage at the annual City of Cape Town festive lights switch-on from 16:00 on Sunday 3 December 2017 include:

  • Baby Boy
  • Paxton (Idols finalist)
  • Soul Kulture
  • Heavenly Quartez
  • Koos Kombuis
  • Vicky Sampson
  • Craig Lucas (winner of The Voice South Africa)
  • Jimmy Nevis
  • Freshlyground
  • The Rockets and Friends (celebrating 50 years)
  • DJ Reddy D
  • MC: Joe Barber and Boeta Gamat

The Grand Parade and surrounding streets will be energised by a shining line-up of fan favourite music acts, ahead of the eagerly awaited illumination moment at 20:30. The concert will end with a spectacular 3D video mapping display. As always, the first crossing in Adderley Street will carry a brand new light attraction that this year will spark the 2017 theme: Cape Town celebrates summer.

The festive lights switch-on is always a highlight on the city’s annual events calendar, as it is a wonderful family occasion for young and old to enjoy.  Attracting not only local residents, but visitors from afar, all are met with a warm and true Capetonian reception – something the city has now become known for around the world, as Cape Town celebrates its status as the ‘Events Capital of Africa.’

Rounding out the line-up will be the winners of the City’s Festive Lights Challenge music video competition, now in its second year. Chosen by Capetonians through an online public voting system on Indi.com, the winning up-and-coming artist or band will perform at the festival on 3 December and also receive a fantastic cash prize of R10 000. Entrants need upload a performance video via the indi.com mobile app and share it to their social channels. The more votes the entrant gets, the higher their standing on the ‘buzz meter’. The artist with the most ‘buzz points’ will be crowned the winner. The Festive Lights Challenge is on until 28 November 2017.

Melville Association works with Citiq to bring new life to 27 Boxes

Shopping centres have historically been a place to shop, gather socially and eat, and these basic values are still a major draw for today’s shoppers. However, the design and delivery of services are markedly different today, requiring a new approach to keep people engaged.
From parklike atmospheres to in-store mobile offerings, shopping centres can shake up the experience to stay relevant.

In the abundance of Johannesburg shopping malls, there is one that truly stands out as unique. Distinct in design and entrepreneurially friendly, Melville’s 27 Boxes is the first of its kind made from shipping containers.

The shopping centre that was built in 2014, has been re-invented as a family and entertainment destination with water features, open air amphitheatres, sculptured gardens and many more carefully designed features to make it the ultimate, eat, play and shopping location for residents and visitors to Melville.

The CEO of Citiq Gustave Holtzhausen saw the potential and decided to work closely with Melville Residents Association, for the overhaul of the centre and bring it back to the heart of the community.

Leading in the revamp is Leon Pretorius, owner of The Countess restaurant, who volunteered to be the turnaround manager.
In explaining why they decide to integrate the centre with the community Pretorius says they believe that the viability and success of the centre is largely dependent on residents utilising it as well.

The mall opened its doors In June 2015 and is home to a number of fashion designers, art galleries, and interior design and home décor shops.
What’s also appealing about the venue is that it abides by the “local is lekker” philosophy of promoting home grown brands and creativity.

Shipping containers have long been associated with pop-up malls and temporary exhibition stands. They have also provided the basic building blocks for a number of internationally acclaimed retail developments. Box Park in London, and a retail park in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Water conservation is culture at Sun International’s The Table Bay

The Table Bay hotel at the Victoria & Alfred Waterfront in Cape Town has intensified its efforts to save water as the Western Cape remains in the grips of severe drought. Its concerted drive to conserve this scarce and precious resource includes a mix of technological and behavioural interventions. Through these interventions, The Table Bay has successfully retained similar water consumption during peak occupancy periods to that of its lowest occupancy periods.

“Water conservation has become culture at The Table Bay. We are invested in every drop and we believe that collectively, even the simplest tactics can meaningfully contribute to saving water. We all have a responsibility to use water mindfully,” says Joanne Selby, the General Manager at The Table Bay.
The Table Bay has successfully implemented two systems for collecting, recycling and reusing water. The first collection system treats and stores water from the kitchens and a number of rooms, which is then used to flush the public toilets in the banquet area and also water the gardens around the hotel. The second collection system recycles backwashed water back into the swimming pool.

To improve the water efficiency of the hotel’s gardens, water wise plants are being planted; with the hotel’s flowering plants being replaced with succulents which require less water. In addition, the irrigation system in the garden beds at the main entrance has been replaced with a drip system which reduces water consumption by up to 60%.

Additional water meters have been installed to allow water consumption in different areas of the hotel to be monitored closely. With these water meters, the team will be able to incorporate water monitoring into the Energy Monitoring dashboard to measure usage and generate reports. This will enable the team to identify areas of high consumption and proactively implement tactics to curb it where possible. The hotel is also experimenting with various water saving devices in the kitchens where water usage is necessary. These include devices such as flow restrictors on taps. To inculcate a culture of water consciousness amongst staff, the hotel has implemented training and awareness programmes to ensure that employees apply water smart behaviours in their daily tasks.

The Table Bay has also introduced a campaign to engage its guests in its water saving efforts. Notices are placed on arrival, in rooms and bathrooms to advise guests about the hotel’s water savings campaign and offer easy tips for reducing water consumption that won’t compromise the guest experience. To minimize water use in the laundry, linen in guest rooms is now only changed every third day unless requested otherwise.
Guests are encouraged to participate in the water saving effort by:
·         Showering instead of bathing
·         Keeping their showers short
·         Switching off the tap when brushing their teeth
“Being a five star hotel with a vast international, green conscious clientele, we have found that guests are very willing to participate in our efforts because they see it as taking positive action towards the environment,” says Selby.
“Looking ahead, The Table Bay will investigate systems to facilitate rainwater harvesting. Water conservation is a long term initiative for us. We hope to inspire other companies to be proactive about saving water,” concludes Selby.

Time capsule buried to celebrate 25th anniversary of The Palace of the Lost City

In 25 years when The Palace of the Lost City at Sun City turns 50, a time capsule that is to be buried in the grounds of The Palace of the Lost City, will be opened.
The receptacle will be buried on The Palace’s 25th birthday on November 11 and will contain artefacts and documents from 1992 when the hotel opened to now.
A letter from current CEO, Anthony Leeming, will be included in the capsule to be opened on The Palace’s 50th anniversary. In it, he will detail the current state of affairs at Sun International’s flagship resort, Sun City, and his predictions for the next 25 years.
He said: “We cannot know what the world will be like in the next two and a half decades. Who would have foreseen the technological and digital changes that have occurred in our lifetime? The world is a very different place now than it was in 1992 and it will, I imagine, be different in 2042.”

Legends rely on the passing of time to grow into myth. And so it has been with The Palace, a legendary destination designed by dreamers for luxury-seekers.
Since inception in 1992, the luxury five-star hotel, The Palace of the Lost City, has enthralled visitors from all over the globe.
The time capsule will include staff letters to reflect work and life at The Palace now as well as visualisations of what the hotel will be in 25 years.

Said Leeming: “We don’t want to reveal too much about what we will put into our time capsule. Hopefully, it will be a surprise when it is dug up, and its contents revealed.”
But, he said this month’s burial event invite, a miniature statue of Danie De Jager’s famous Shawu the elephant, and branded paraphernalia from the hotel would be included.
There would also be photographs of founding father Sol Kerzner and famous guests hosted by The Palace over the last 25 years, among them Michael Jackson and Elton John.
The Lost City complex cost R830 million to construct in 1992.
“That was a fraction of what it would cost to build today. We want to reflect the changes – in everything - in our capsule,” Leeming said.

He added that what had not changed since inception was the attention to detail, the special care given to guests and the excellent service offered at The Palace.
With our man made jungle, world class golf course, superb entertainment facilities, including our magnificent water park, The Valley of The Waves, and gaming facilities, The Palace has been the preferred destination for discerning travellers from around the world.”
He said it was with great pride that he could say: “We have had a very successful 25 years. We know the next 25 will be equally so, and better.”

More about  Canyons:

‘Canyons’ delves deep into the recesses of longing and nostalgia, with a burni
ng hope as the undercurrent that gently washes through the record. Dark at times, introspective and pierced with a sublime beauty, the songs reverberate and shimmer with otherworldly elegance and intelligence. While some songs are intoxicating with ominous lyrics and black staccato beats, others glow with optimism and a rich lyricism that is bought home by the intimacy of Levine’s vocal delivery.

Canyons, the title track of the album, leads the listener into a world where ‘You can hear silence/and feel a prayer sung on the wind’. This is a terrain of stark untouched beauty and is the key metaphor of the album. Speaking about the song and about the album as a whole, Levine says that it came from a place of yearning- for the simpler, majestic and timeless world of the great outdoors where one can ‘breathe free’ and find ‘a piece of hope in the change of the tides/a piece of grace in the moon that will rise’. This overarching sense of nature as a healing force that offers respite from the cold hard edges of reality is sprinkled throughout the album. Also present are the murmerings of memory, the contours of faith and hope, and the hypnotic danger and beauty of love and desire.

The 11 track record was recorded over a one year period at the home studio of producer Barry Berk in Johannesburg. Due to the fact that it was such a big departure from her previous work, Levine and Berk spent much time exploring the ‘sound’ of the album, experimenting with different synths and seeking out an original voice for the album. The music was also shaped by the talents of the guest musicians who include Isaac Klawansky (Shadowclub) on drums and beats, Franco Schoeman (ISO) on bass and Zam Boney (Slashdogs) on guitar amongst others.

Despite the departure from her previous style and the movement into a new sound scape, what remains are the unforgettable and poignant melodies and the emotionality that define Levine as a songwriter. Levine has maintained the integrity with which she has come to be associated and ‘Canyons’ marks an exciting, bold and brave step into a new world.
