Vlog #3: Dermalogica, Garden of Lights, Status Update Premier and Bohemian Rhapsody Premier

This is a mixed vlog as I was capturing as much as possible whilst also trying to enjoy the experiences.

First up we have the Status Update movie Premier where we enjoyed being on the firsts to see the teen movie. The movie was full of laughs, music and entertainment. Although a comedy, the film touched on morals and values and living in a world that is overridden by social media. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Second, we visited the Dermalogica Concept Store launch at Sandton City. This is one of 16 stand alone stores that Dermalogica has opened where you can enjoy treatments, face masking and buying your favorite products. This store is a MUST visit. They even have holiday gift sets right in time for Christmas as well as advent calendars. The store is located next to H&M.

Thirdly, we visited the Garden of Lights at Emperors Palace. This spectacle is an amazing displace of holiday lights for the whole family. Even if you don't have kiddies, I feel this is a MUST SEE as well because it brings the magic of Christmas to light. The Garden of Lights is an annual display that Emperors Palace put on, each year brings something new and magical to the displays. After you have visited the lights, you can enjoy the fun fair with great rides and games to play.

Last but not least we were invited to the premier of Bohemian Rhapsody also at Emperors Palace.  They pulled out all of the stops. It was amazing, we were treated to delectable food, great drinks and of course a phenomenal film. The film is based on the rise and fall and then rise again, of Queen and more specifically Freddie Mercury. The pure genies that was Freddie and the band is amazingly shown through the modern day film. It was honestly one of the best films that I ever seen. I had gone into the film being a fan of Queen and left there being a die hard fan! I give it a 10/10 for just sheer AMAZINGNESS!!! (Yes I made that up)

I would just like to thank the following people for these amazing experience:

Hot 91.9FM Christmas Wish

cid:image001.jpg@01D48C9D.E1F215C0

The Hot 91.9FM Christmas Wish will launch on Mansfield in the Morning from the 10th to the 21st of December.

Hot 91.9FM is a radio station entrenched in the hearts of the community it serves because of the goodwill it generates constantly. Jeremy Mansfield is a larger than life personality who is strongly associated with charitable causes and personifies the meaning of philanthropy. Together, the two are a match made in Christmas Wish heaven.

Jeremy believes there is one aspect of his life he has missed since giving up radio full time in 2010. “It is something I grew up with in the Eastern Cape, have treasured and maintain is an integral part of my being a member of the ma-British Settler/ama-Xhosa community. We give,” he said.

“I feel the country as a whole needs to feel the warmth of the generous spirit of giving.  Giving needs to come straight from the heart, where it first started,” he continued.

Hot 91.9FM through its Hot Cares initiative recently raised over R2 million at its annual Teddy – thon, which will contribute towards the needs of the community over the next year.  “The station sees itself as a conduit,” said Lloyd Madurai, managing director of Hot 91.9FM.  “As a non-profit company it is not only in our DNA, but it is our sole mandate to put the needs of others before our own,” he added.  “Everything we do is for our community.”

Samantha Cowen, co-host of Mansfield in the Morning, said that it’s often the little things that matter the most to people.  “When going through the selection process, it is often very difficult to make a call on who to help as there are so many people in need.  Personally, I always remember that very often, just by giving someone a couch for their living room, we are changing the whole dynamic of a family situation.  We are instilling pride and providing something that others see as a basic.”

The station was recently acknowledged at the South African Small Business Awards for the role it plays in the community.  It was honoured with The National Community Award for the outstanding and significant contribution that it makes in the community. The National Small Business Champion Award is a unique award, and was awarded to the station for what it has done in terms of community upliftment. Both these awards are, in effect, national community awards.

Hot 91.9FM provides a solid, sustainable platform with a track record of community involvement.  The Hot 91.9FM Christmas Wish is a perfect fit for the station and the community.  Like everything the station undertakes, The Hot 91.9FM Christmas Wish will remind listeners and all South Africans that, in the words of Nelson Mandela, “What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.”

Listeners are invited to send in their requests for friends, family members, colleagues, neighbours or a person they know who has fallen on hard times and deserves a break to christmaswish@hot919.co.za

ROCKING TIME SQUARE WITH DAN NICHOLL’S CHRISTMAS PARTY

_________________________

South Africa’s coolest new entertainment venue, the Sun Arena at Time Square in Pretoria, is set for a very festive season, as popular television host Dan Nicholl gathers a collection of extremely talented friends for the very first edition of Dan Nicholl’s Christmas Party, to be held on Monday 17 December.

Taking advantage of the public holiday, the Christmas celebration will run from 15:00 - 17:00, and with ticket prices ranging from R100 to R150, it’s guaranteed to be a terrific afternoon out for the entire family – particularly given the star talent on show, including the acclaimed South African rock band The Parlotones; the hugely popular Kurt Darren; electric violinist Davina Gordon; the multi-talented Bianca le Grange and a very special band that features Just Jinger frontman Ard Matthews and former Springbok Schalk Burger Snr, an accomplished guitarist.

There’ll also be plenty of comedy on stage with the Emmy award-winning Loyiso Gola, Jason Goliath, Stuart Taylor, Donovan Goliath, Chris Forrest and Nicholas Goliath all on the line-up.

Former MasterChef judge Pete Goffe-Wood, illusionist Ryan Sharp and television star Maps Maponyane will also be making an appearance, along with a celebrity Christmas choir with some very familiar faces at the end of the party for a final flourish.

Says Nicholl: “I’m extremely excited to have such an extraordinary collection of South African talent come together for the Christmas party – it’s a celebration of some exceptional local performers, as well as the festive season.

“To see the likes of The Parlotones, Loyiso Gola, Kurt Darren, Stuart Taylor and Bianca le Grange on one line-up, for just R100, is a terrific opportunity. Hopefully we get Maps Maponyane to take his shirt off and Jason Goliath and Chris Forrest to keep theirs on!”

In the spirit of the festive season, the proceeds from the event will all go to the Laureus Sport For Good Foundation, which supports projects across South Africa, using the power of sport to uplift the lives of disadvantaged children.

“It’s a wonderful opportunity for people to come along, enjoy a uniquely South African variety show, and support local kids at Christmas,” says Nicholl.

KARMA RELEASE: NEW TRACK

IMAGE | Marc Ronin x JungleGum Remix

If there is one thing that drives emerging electro-pop songstress, Karma, it`s the need to continue to strive for perfection. Despite having written new tracks over the past few months, several of which have been earmarked as singles, she has chosen instead to revisit her debut single "Image".

Working with Cape Town based duo Marc Ronin x JungleGum who have enjoyed European success with their trailblazing mixes, Karma has recrafted the song with a darker and heavier edge, yet at the same time retaining the infectious pop sheen that made it one of the most talked about singles of 2017. The lyrical inspiration behind "Image" deals with the age-old burden of betrayal and heartbreak, made all the more poignant by her own personal experience "It`s about not being able to get someone out of your head or heart, even when they have lied to and damaged you." Fuelled by skittering electro beats, pulsating synth bass lines and vast swathes of melodic keyboard washes, with Karma`s compulsive and haunting vocals weaving in and out of the song,  "Image" takes the listener on a unpredictable but fulfilling musical journey.

Karma is always taking her music in new directions, and experimenting with different genres. She is set to release 2 new singles early next year, and this remix bridges the gap perfectly between the different transitions. It also comes at a perfect time for summer and festival season

Secrets of the flying tribe

Around 600 000 people are in the air at any one time, as passengers and crew of the
3 300 aircraft aloft somewhere. That’s more or less the same as the population of the
city of Khumasi in Ghana, or Lilongwe in Malawi. Like all interesting nations and
cities, the world’s population of fliers is very diverse and constantly changing: Shaun
Pozyn, head of marketing at kulula.com, takes a light-hearted look at some of the
tribes and what we can learn from them.

The regulars: A little like George Clooney’s world-weary character Ryan Bingham in
the movie Up in the Air, these folk travel a lot and the novelty of being served
champagne while hurtling through the sky is long gone. They have tricks and hacks
to get through check-in and security. Like soldiers trained to field-strip and clean their
weapons in the dark, they’ve honed the procedures of removing laptops and – in the
case of international travel - liquids in plastic bags as they pass through security.
They may time their progress from carpark to airport lounge and look where they can
speed things up. Some bemoan an otherwise flawless routine – perhaps even a new
Personal Best – being thwarted by, say, a tour-group of pensioners. An offshoot of
this tribe is the semi-grator, working in one city, usually on weekdays, and living in
another, usually on weekends.

What we can learn: Streamlining. Some regular travellers may be a little
preoccupied with whether turning left or right in the security queue is quicker – a few
maintain that left is always quicker – but they do easy, genuinely useful things too.
Online check-in, bag-drops, reserved seating and lounge access all make things a
little easier.

The A-lister: This regular traveller is secretly convinced that everyone in the
terminal and aircraft recognises them from the tabloid mags’ social pages and their
Instagram feeds. They may sport sunglasses at any time of day or night and, as a
result, have been known to try to order coffee at airport gift-shops or collide with
furniture and people. They keep their phones ready to take pouty selfies with adoring
fans as they head for yet another junket to sample a new line of cosmetics, along
with their fellow social media influencers.

What we can learn: Lounge access gives you access to bathroom facilities where
you can make sure your no-makeup makeup is on fleek – as the A-listers would say
– before boarding, or simply relax with a drink and a snack. Lounges, like the SLOW
lounges at most domestic airports, are more likely to be able to accommodate A-
lister requests for gluten-free-decaf-no-foam-almond-latte-double-shot-with-a-drizzle-
of-caramel than the outlets in the terminal. Some lounges have showers.
The globetrotter: This tribe comes in many variations, from the travelling vloggers
tick-boxing through a dozen countries a year, to aid workers travelling light while
saving lives. They all have their own proven ways of streamlining their journeys.
Some pack a minimum of clothing and launder them along the way. Others swear by
rolling clothes up rather than folding them or have an array of high-tech gizmos like
solar chargers for their devices or to purify water for drinking. Tribal insignia may
also include neck-pillows designed by NASA, which they wear at all times or dangle
from a backpack, or that sarong that serves as a towel, blanket, parasol and
changing-booth.

What we can learn: Keep an eye on special offers and updates on baggage
allowances. Globetrotters know that these may vary between airlines and they make
sure that they comply with the limitations while they head for the Bora Bora via
Auckland and Port Moresby.

The leisurely: These are often retired or empty-nesters travelling to see children
and grandchildren, often to redeem rewards points. You’ll see them exuding Zen-like
calm in lounges or browsing airport shops. They have the luxury of travelling in the
off-peak hours rather than the early mornings and late afternoons when business
travellers fill up domestic flights.

What we can learn: Give yourself plenty of time to get to the airport and through
security. Although mornings and afternoons are busiest in domestic terminals, you’ll
enjoy your journey more if you’re able to get airside and spend some time unwinding
before boarding.

The unusually proportioned: You needn’t be as tall as Boban Marjanović – at
2.22m, the NBA’s tallest player this season – to feel that you’d like a little extra
legroom. This tribe often endures I’m-glad-I’m-not-him stares from fellow
passengers, who may also dread sitting next to more generously proportioned fellow
passengers.

What we can learn: Know the trade-offs. If you’re tall, you’ll covet an exit-row seat
for its legroom, but the inflight entertainment screens in those seats are usually
smaller. So if you’re of average height or short, on a long-haul flight and enjoy your
movies, select a seat away from an exit-row.

The rebel: You’ll come across these folk in all walks of life, but on aircraft they’re the
ones who regard noncompliance with announcements as a symbol of individuality.
They’ll remove their headphones and switch off their devices only when told to in
person by cabin-crew, and with direct eye-contact. “Oh, you mean ME? Are you
sure?” They bank on the fact that other passengers are reluctant to Cause A Scene
and, while the aircraft taxis and takes off, will furtively perform vitally important online
tasks like adding puppy noses to their Snapchat selfies.

What we can learn: There are always people who use cutlery to extract toast from a
toaster, but airline safety instructions are in place for a reason. Just follow them.

Dazzling Frank Sinatra international hit show to tour South Africa in March 2019

"SINATRA AND ME" RECEIVES RAVE REVIEWS
AND IT’S COMING TO TOWN!

Frank Sinatra, one of music's great icons, is all set to ignite the South African stage in 2019 in a dazzling big band international show, SINATRA AND ME, featuring celebrated British performer, Richard Shelton who has been described as "one of the world’s finest Sinatra interpreters".  Shelton is an award-winning actor and singer and his show comes directly from the West End and Los Angeles. He will be accompanied on stage by Adam Howard’s 17-piece Joburg Big Band.

This highly acclaimed show kicks off in Durban at the Rockwood Theatre on 12 March with four shows before heading to Gauteng, The Mandela at Joburg Theatre from 21 March, and is bound to hit all the high notes with Sinatra fans.

"I’m very excited to be making my first visit to South Africa," he says, "and being in the position to combine my two passions, travel and the music of Frank Sinatra and a big band. It is the perfect way to make what I hope will be the first of many visits."

Talking about the show, Shelton says: "The show focuses on the wonderful music of Sinatra with hits including ‘I’ve Got You Under My Skin’, ‘Fly Me to the Moon’, ‘It Was a Very Good Year’ and ‘One For My Baby,’ as well as lesser known hits, including a very intimate rendition of ‘My Foolish Heart’.

"The show is brought together with a narrative that looks at my time starring as Sinatra in London’s West End to the synchronicity between our lives, borne out by many incredible coincidences in LA including how his tuxedo literally walked into my life, a fact which was verified by Sir Roger Moore (James Bond) on live TV. I was also one of the last people to be inside Sinatra’s last home as it was being demolished. It was completely by chance.  We also have original music in the show including the title track scored for a big-band arrangement, ’Sinatra and Me’, which we recorded in East West Studios, LA, where Sinatra recorded ‘My Way’ and ‘A Very Good Year’.”

“Naturally, my biggest influence is the music of Frank Sinatra but also vocal stylings from singers including Billie Holliday, Ella Fitzgerald and Tony Bennett. Musically, I’m influenced by the greats including Oscar Peterson, Count Basie but also by a lot of classical music. I’m drawn to musical arrangements that allow the lyrics to flow. For me, the lyrics come first. You have to be able to tell a story first and foremost. That’s not to discredit the music, but unless there’s space to make the lyrics really mean something for the audience, you have nothing.”

Shelton received a ‘Best Actor in a Leading Role’ award for his performance as Frank Sinatra in Rat Pack Confidential. Now South African audiences will get an opportunity to see him recreate the many magical moments in Sinatra’s musical career.

Richard has performed for HRH Prince Charles at Windsor Castle, for Sir Elton John at his ‘White Tie and Tiara Ball‘, with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBC Concert Orchestra, the BBC Big Band, at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London and on countless international TV and radio shows.

As an actor, Richard is known to British TV audiences for playing series regular Dr Adam Forsythe in the TV show Emmerdale. Richard recently made his US TV debut playing Mr Benson in ‘House of Lies’.

Hear the world’s greatest Sinatra interpreter sing the coolest Sinatra songs – an unforgettable night of song and storytelling.

After Joburg, SINATRA AND ME travels to East London, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town prior to heading far South to New Zealand.

Quotes
“No one should take lightly standing onstage trying to BE Frank Sinatra, but Richard Shelton is quite simply phenomenal. He captures the essence of the man perfectly. His voice has exactly the right tone; he has that twinkle in his eye; he has the anger that sometimes flowed out of every Sinatra pore.”  Mike Young, BBC, ‘Rat Pack Confidential’.

“Singing the hits with style, Sinatra is marvellously played by Richard Shelton with a smile that turns on and off like a light bulb and an edge of near psychotic violence who comes across as a 24-carat bastard.” - Charles Spencer , The Daily Telegraph, ‘Rat Pack Confidential’.

“Sinatra emerges as the worst kind of playground bully and Richard Shelton captures perfectly his string-pulling menace.” - Michael Billington, The Guardian, ‘Rat Pack Confidential’.
“A stand out performance from Richard Shelton as a swaggering steely-eyed son-of-a-bitch Sinatra.”- Alan Hulme, Manchester Evening News, ‘Rat Pack Confidential’
sundaytele

“Richard Shelton in particular conveys a fearsome impression of how vile Sinatra could be when he was crossed (and sometimes wasn’t).”.- John Gross, The Sunday Telegraph, Rat Pack Confidential’
times
“Richard Shelton’s splendidly tough yet laid back performance as authentic a rat and a pack-leader.” Benedict Nightingale, The Times, ‘Rat Pack Confidential’
“The hit songs, interwoven with teasing irony into the story get a rapturous response, especially thanks to Richard Shelton as an unnervingly authentic Sinatra.” – The Stage, ‘Rat Pack Confidential’
Sinatra: The Main Event stars Richard Shelton, one of the world’s finest Sinatra interpreters. Shelton performed as Frank Sinatra in “Rat Pack Confidential,” a stunning performance that saw him nominated Best Actor in a leading role.
“Richard Shelton is both mesmerizing and disturbing as Sinatra. He is smooth andcharming in demeanor as he croons, but in a second displays a more private, volatile side to his nature and a life littered with indiscretions.”
“A 5-strong cast especially Richard Shelton as an unnervingly authentic Sinatra” – Fiona Mountford, ‘Rat Pack Confidential
